About Behr Paint

Founder Otho Behr, Jr. began selling linseed oil to paint stores from the back of his woody station wagon soon after world war II. His customers quickly made it known that they needed something that would perform better on redwood than just linseed oil. Seizing the opportunity, Otho Jr. asked his father, Dr. Otho Behr Sr., an accomplished chemist, to help him develop a formula to meet their requirements. Not long after, the father-and-son team began making a clear finish and stain for redwood in the Behr family garage.
